How To Take Care for Your Tatami Mat

tatami mat is used to place under a mattress or as a yoga mat.

All tatami mats must be kept dry in order to avoid any mold/mildew. We recommend that your tatami is only wiped with a slightly damp cloth and no harsh cleaning solutions. You can also carefully vacuum your tatami on the weakest setting, and only in the direction of the rice straw. Going against the direction of the straws may damage the tatami or cause the dirt to get pushed into it.

You might notice a scent from your tatami mat. This comes from the natural rice straws and will disappear over time - therefore this is not categorized as a fault of the product.

Tatami mats are sensitive to moisture, avoid leaving carpet or other covering material on top of a tatami mat as it creates a moist environment for mold. We recommend cleaning and airing out the tatami once in a while, most likely up against a wall. Dry and sunny days are best for airing the tatami mats.
